Always use a metal tape measure as a cloth one can stretch and give an incorrect measure.

Measuring for square bay windows

First, decide if your blinds will be top fixed or face fixed.

Check the table above and establish the correct headrail size.

There are two options for measuring blinds. Option A gives better coverage across the front of the window whilst Option B gives greater coverage at the sides.

Option A

Measure the full width of the bay and order this blind as a recess measure.

Measure both side windows, however, this time deduct the Bracket/Headrail depth from this measurement. Again order these blinds as recess measures to allow for clearance between the blinds.

Option B

Measure both side windows from the front to the corner and order both of these blinds as recess measures.

Next measure the full width of the bay and deduct double the Bracket/Headrail depth (once for each side blind) and order this as a recess blind.

Important!

Whichever option you choose you will need to make additional allowances for any obstructions such as handles etc. that protrude into the bay.

Drop

To measure the drop simply measure from the top of where the blind will sit (normally the ceiling) down to the cill or the lower position.

Measuring for angle bay windows

First, decide if your blinds will be top fixed or face fixed.

Check the table above and establish the correct headrail size.

Using pieces of A5 card or paper cut or fold them into two strips. Ensure the width of strips A & B is equal to the Bracket/Headrail depth in the table above.

Move each piece of card or paper towards each other until they just touch, as shown at X in the diagram. Using a pencil, lightly mark the window frame or cill at this point.

Repeat this process for each angle around the bay.

Measure from the edge of the window to the first mark and note this measurement. Now measure from the first mark to the second and note this measurement, and so on around the bay until you return to the final corner.

Now double-check these measurements and order the blinds as recess measures. This will ensure adequate clearance between the blinds while still providing adequate coverage.

Important!

Whichever option you choose you will need to make additional allowances for any obstructions such as handles etc. that protrude into the bay.

Drop

To measure the drop simply measure from the top of where the blind will sit (normally the ceiling) down to the cill or the lower position.
